S. O. B.

- Son of a bitch! What are you doing this time of year here?

- I know it's not Christmas but, hey!, what 'e heck.

- Who told you I'm here?

- Mom.

- Mom? Mom told you I'm here?

- Yea, what's so strange about it?

- Nothing, nothing. Just sit down. Just...have a seat down there.

- OK. thanks.

- So what are you doing here?

- I just got to town I thought I'd stop by to say "hi".

- What's this all about, you and your mother going on a business trip?

- Who told you that?

- Well I have my sources too.

- Yea that's true. We decided to go on a business trip together. After all I will be taking up the business pretty soon so what's the difference. I thought I'd get started, getting to know some people, you know. Sooner or later I have to meet them.

- That's right. You should have thought about that earlier.

- Why isn't this soon enough?

- Yea it's alright...I guess.

- So how's things going here? Is this your new town? Are you running for mayor pretty soon? I hear the old mayor died of heart attack. I'd say it was about time...92 years old? wow!! He deserved it.

- Well I'm not sure about that. But anyway there is a slot opening up there...and we just might fill it...

- What you have anyone else in mind?

- Just wait and see. You'll see pretty soon anyhow, the position is to be filled within 30 days of the "departure" of the other guy.

- What there's not gonna be a new election?

- No, no wait don't run so fast. It's a new rule. New rules here! The commission decides.

- The commission? What commission?

- You know the old council members plus some "prominent" members of the community, doctors, judges, lawyers, you know, business leaders, the professor of economics...

- Ah OK I know him alright. He's always on every committee that springs up.

- Yea you’re right on that one...How come you know this much about this little bitty town? I never knew you were a resident here.

- No not exactly. I just happen to know some people who work inside the college...and outside I might add.

- Oh ok that makes sense then. So what brings you here anyhow?

- Well, as I say, just got back from my vacation and thought I'd drop by to see how things go.

- Well, things go well, just fine tell your mother.

- Ok I will. So long then dad.

- What you're leaving already?

- Yea I have work to do.

- Me too. You don't see me leaving!!

- Ok...I see...So what's new?

- Well, not much. I just started the work on that project I was thinking about, you know, the one that took me three years to plan?

- Yea I know

- Well, it's getting started! Wouldn't you know it?

- Great dad. That's great. So you got some people working on it already?

- Well, not exactly but as I say it's getting started anyday now. I got them all signed up and ready to go.

- So what's holding you?

- There's this contractor who changed his design the last minute and we are running after him to change it back to the way it was. Don't worry he's coming back to town next Monday and we are set to go.

- Great. Great news. So what else?

- What, isn't that good enough news for you?

- Yea yea don't get me wrong I'm excited and everything but you know there's nothing I can do, nothing for me to do there to be honest so...

- Oh ok I see, you wanted to be part of it, isn't that what you mean?

- Well yea.

- Ok then we'll get you something...how 'bout...the roofing. You can do the roofing, can't you?

- Yea I could do that but...I'd much rather do the paint part...

- OK. It's done! The painting part it is!! Of course you know you have to wait until the other parts are done in, probably a couple of weeks, what am I saying, make that a couple of months. We might make it earlier but, you know, we have to put some structure down first.

- Yea I know. In the meantime I'll just concentrate on my studies.

- What, didn't you finish that masters already?

- No I'm graduating next semester.

- Well, we got April now, that's...8 months, ain't it? That's not too long...

- Anyhow, I've got to go.

- OK good to see you son.

- Bye dad.

- Bye.

- Catch you next week. I might drop by to see how things go with the project.

- Ok, good.

- See you later.

- Bye.
